A series of Gothic games from developers from Piranha Bytes for many gamers is the standard of the CRPG genre. It takes place several times, but sooner or later even such a masterpiece of game building can get bored, and then people go in search of similar RPGs, a dozen of which we have gathered in one place.
10. Red Dead Redemption
This indisputable masterpiece from the masters of their craft from Rockstar was published in 2010 on the then relevant PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, immediately conquering the world. Crazy sales and rave reviews from critics are the best proof of this. Contrary to popular belief, this is not the first part of the series, but the second: in 2004 the Red Dead Revolver was released on the PlayStation 2 and the first Xbox, and Redemption became its spiritual successor after 6 years. In the world of the game, you will find the Wild West, a living open world, and a plot that is truly worthy of an adaptation.
9. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
This project was released under the patronage of Electronic Arts in 2012, and although Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is not close to Gothic in terms of quality and popularity, it still deserves attention. It’s even attractive that the leading RPG designer is Ken Rolston, who created the worlds of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and the major publication IGN rated 9 out of 10. The story, designed for several tens of hours of unhurried passage, leaves a pleasant aftertaste, prompting you to try out the additions of The Legend of Dead Kel and Teeth of Naros, released after the release.
8. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die
The world famous series, attracting with its hardcore nature. In it, you will not just die occasionally, but die dozens or even hundreds of times before you reach the final boss. A well-designed seamless world filled with a lot of dangers, to cope with which will be under an excellent soundtrack. The plot is served both through cut scenes, and using scraps of information from dialogs or descriptions scattered around locations of objects.
7. Fallout 4
No less cult than Gothic franchise, which at first glance has nothing to do with it. Yes, indeed, here events take place in the future - 2077, and it will not be a sword to wield, but more high-tech weapons, but there are still common features. For example, both universes are well developed, in both games an exciting plot and addictive gameplay, and you can go through them several times with new impressions. The deep role-playing system is designed in such a way that it is impossible to feel all aspects of the game mechanics at one time, therefore they come back to this post-apocalyptic world again and again.
6. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Released in 2007, the game almost instantly became a bestseller: in the first two weeks, nearly 2,000,000 copies were sold worldwide, and critics did not skimp on the praise of Bethesda Game Studios. The fourth part, although not positioned as a direct sequel to The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, but events in it unfold after the story from the third part. The player will get to Cyrodiil - the central province of Tamriel, where he will have to fight with monsters that penetrate from Oblivion after the death of King Uriel Septim VII. You can freely travel around the vast world, completing dozens of story and side quests, and when everything is completed - go explore the additions of Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles.
5. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen
The creators of the game are the same people who worked on Resident Evil and Devil May Cry, which in itself means a lot. Dogma has not become as popular as the previously mentioned series, but this does not make it bad: the fantasy world with elements of survival horror deserves to be studied. Most of all, it will appeal to lovers of difficulties: this, of course, is not Dark Soules, but you still have to sweat. Bugs that spoiled the impression of the game at the time of release were eliminated over time, so now you can play quite comfortably.
4. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Released in 2011, the fifth part of the series for years has become the best in the genre. The adventures of Dovakin so impressed the players that its circulation for all time exceeded 30,000,000 copies. Skyrim provides complete freedom of action: no one forces you to move around the plot and do something specific. You yourself have the right to decide what to do: become the head of the Guild of Thieves or Mages, clear the caves of trolls, fight with bandits, etc. Downloadable add-ons by Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn, as well as many custom modifications have significantly extended the life of the project: even now, 7 years after the release, fashion continues to be made on her. Some, cardinally changing the schedule, not every modern PC will pull.
3. Ryse: Son of Rome
Created by the Germans from Crytek, the RPG came out on the Xbox One in 2013, becoming one of the main projects supporting the Kinect controller. Later, developers ported it to Windows, so now you can choose the platform on which to play. As the name implies, events unfold in the Roman Empire of the 50-60s, but do not look for reliability in the described history. Although real people like Nero and Commodus are present in it, the world is still different.
2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The output of the third Witcher divided the gaming industry into “before” and “after”. From the CD Projekt Red studio everyone was waiting for a good RPG in the spirit of the previous parts, but they managed to jump above not only their own heads, but also the heads of all competitors. The plot is so interesting and sometimes unpredictable that you can not talk about it without spoilers. Let's say one thing: to get the maximum dose of pleasure from the passage, read the book source of Andrzej Sapkowski. Without it, Wild Hunt, although it remains a masterpiece, will be less understood.
1. Neverwinter Nights
We will finish today's top with another franchise that does not need to be introduced too much. BioWare very carefully handled the Dungeons & Dragons desktop, transferring its mechanics to personal computers, so those familiar with the third edition were delighted. In the Neverwinter world, you have to look for a cure for a terrible epidemic that claimed many lives. Charismatic, memorable characters who will become companions will not let you get bored throughout all 4 story chapters.
