Archeology is faced with various finds. There are expected, finds, are amazing, and sometimes even scary. The article will discuss invaluable artifacts for science that have significantly influenced the understanding of history. In such finds there is also a lot of mystery, but they can be explained by logic, but they are interesting with their unusualness and information received about the past of mankind. Many of these discoveries by famous archaeologists have significantly turned the idea of the past.
Birch bark letters
Note that the existence of birch bark letters in Russia was known long before they were discovered. In the annals, "the very books are not written on the letters to the letters, but on the birch bark."
And in July 1951, a Novgorod expedition in one of the excavations discovered a birch bark instrument, on which feudal duties were recorded. In the State Archives, a letter from Novgorod is now listed at number 1.
To date, similar letters have been found in other Russian cities, and their total number has exceeded one thousand copies.
Lucy
The discovery of the remains of Australopithecus in November 1974, today one of the most interesting and significant for science archaeological finds.
A joint Franco-American expedition discovered a skeleton of a female Australopithecus in the Avash Valley, which flows through the expanses of Ethiopia.
The found girl, who lived more than 3.2 million years ago, was called "Lucy", because at that time the Beatles song with that name was very popular. Scientists establish that at the time of the death of "Lucy" was from 25 to 30 years.
Terracotta Army
The peasants of one of the Chinese provinces in 1974 decided to drill a well, and unexpectedly stumbled upon a unique monument of archeology.
Archeologists who arrived at the site, unearthed the burial of the first emperor Kiat Qin Shihuandi, discovered a huge terracotta army, which was buried with the ruler.
It is noteworthy that 8,100 warriors are not alike, and most likely they were real people. Today, millions of tourists rush to the eastern state to see a unique masterpiece of the past.
Ancient tooth inlay
Technologies that are more than a thousand years old have become fashionable again, and modern women of fashion decorate their teeth with diamonds.
But the Indians of Latin America carved holes in their teeth and inserted semiprecious stones into them. Interestingly, this amazing technology was practiced only among men.
Next to the graves of men with such “decorations”, special drills were found for puzzles. But the stones were fixed with glue, which the Indians made of organic substances.
Kissing lovers
Love accompanies humanity throughout history, and this is confirmed by the unique find of archaeologists. During the excavation of one of the ancient cities in northwestern Iran, an interesting burial was discovered.
The ancient city of Tappeh Hasanlu died in a fire after an attack by the Urartu army. In one of the investigated houses in 1972, archaeologists discovered the skeletons of a man and a woman who died in a fire.
Their bodies were pressed together, and the lovers froze for ages in a dying kiss. Anthropologists have also determined the age of the couple, approximately 2,800 years.
Alpine etzi
A unique find was made in 1991 in the Alps. Climbers, finding a body frozen in a glacier, called the police, believing that this was a crime.
But they were not far from the truth, a man really died in the struggle with other people, but this happened about 5,300 thousand years ago. They called it Etzi at the place of detection, and with it unique artifacts were discovered.
Other scholars suggest that he was a shaman and was expelled from the community for bad prophecies or something else. But he died, having stumbled in the mountains, and not in a fight.
Easter Island Sculptures
Huge stone sculptures were discovered on an island in the Pacific Ocean during the first visits by Europeans to this part of the planet. Moai, as these monolithic sculptures are called, was made by ancient sculptures around the 13th century.
Today, a little more than 900 statues are known, and the largest weighs 82 tons. Until now, they have not exactly figured out how the natives moved the ready-made statues, or stone blocks to the place of work.
Studies have shown that they are made in different periods, and have some differences in the artistic style and technique.
Antikythera mechanism
A unique find was discovered during the investigation of a sunken ancient ship in 1901 near the Greek island of Antikythera.
The approximate age of the mechanism that was used to calculate the position of celestial bodies is 2300 years. The complex device consists of 30 bronze gears in a rectangular metal case.
The find indicates a high level of scientific knowledge of the people of antiquity, and high technology, which made it possible to create such a complex mechanism.
Piri Reis Map
A unique historical document, namely a map created in Constantinople at the beginning of the 16th century, was found in 1929 during the reconstruction of the Sultan's palace.
It depicts America, and this is the only map of the 16th century that has survived to this day. That is, already at that time, cartographers, and in this case the Turkish admiral, could compile detailed geographical maps.
It is surprising that it is very detailed, and contains images of lands not yet open at that time.
Pilate Stone
Italian archaeologists in 1961 discovered a plate on the surface of which an inscription was made. The slab was in the port of Caesarea, and was built into the stone staircase in the VI century.
After reading the inscription, the scientific community first spoke about the authenticity of the biblical information about Pontius Pilate.
The find, the inscription of which says "Tiberium ... Pontius Pilate, Prefect of Judea ... dedicated", most likely, was established by decree of the procurator of Judea, and was dedicated to the Roman emperor.
To summarize
As you can see, archeology really allows us to solve many mysteries that our land preserves, including the secrets of civilizations that existed on the earth many centuries ago.
Scientists read this ancient book page by page, extracting ever new unique artifacts from the bowels of the Earth that help to better understand the past, and most importantly to predict the future. In fact, archeology is that “time machine” on which you can go back in time.
